Reflection Module
At The Pilgrimage, we believe in an action-reflection model of learning; learning can only occur when both components are present and powerful. As such, we are extremely intentional about creating reflection time into your schedule. We offer many reflection opportunities, both formal and informal. We aim to create a physical space at The Pilgrimage that encourages, elicits and evokes moments of reflection throughout your stay at The Pilgrimage. The following is a sample of the intentional reflection activities we offer. Poetry Workshop with David Harris David Harris is one of the "Faces" panelists with the National Coalition for the Homeless and our poet-in-residence. He has recently published a book of his poetry called Street Corner Majesty. Since being homeless David has discovered that he is a very talented poet. David's writing helps him cope with the realities of living on the streets. As a part of our partnership with David we are using some of his skills to have more reflection time with our volunteers. David runs a beautiful workshop where volunteers write and share some of their thoughts and impressions of the week. This activity serves as a very meaningful and powerful end to an intense week. This option carries an additional cost of $65 total. Urban Symbols Walk This Bible Studies Bible Studies are important reflection moments. The Pilgrimage staff has many prepared Bible Studies that focus on social justice, action, and your experiences with us at The Pilgrimage. With a member of The Pilgrimage staff you will explore Biblical passages and relate them back to your experiences at The Pilgrimage, culminating with the creation of concrete and constructive proposals that you can take with you after you leave The Pilgrimage. |
