Church in the City
Our Christian faith demands action. This concept is at the core of our Church in the City program. A schedule is created that focuses on issues surrounding homelessness, hunger and poverty in the urban D.C. area and use them as a springboard to explore the intersection between social justice and Christianity. This programming option is an opportunity to probe deeper into your faith. The Pilgrimage utilizes a modular system when we create your Church in the City program. Each trip contains a service module, learning module, and reflection module. As with all of our programming, we work with you to fill in the trip as much as you would like. This allows you to dictate the autonomy you have throughout your trip. For example, if you want to facilitate your own reflections, we build in the time so you can do so. LEARN MORE about how we create your programming. There are two main Church in the City trips that groups participate in: a weekend trip and a week-long summer trip. However, groups can participate in the Church and the City program throughout all seasons and for various durations. These popular examples provide good guidelines for any group who chooses this programming option. Week-long summer trips Each summer we focus our week-long trips around a common theme. The theme for Summer 2009 is Risking a Deeper Welcome. This theme helps focus programming by creating a new way to learn about the junction between faith and action. Participants in week long trips expand their conceptual knowledge of homelessness, hunger, and poverty, volunteer for these causes, and grow their understanding of the role their Christian faith plays in repairing the injustices associated with these issues. In an abbreviated time we aim to provide you with a meaningful experience that educates; just because the trip is shorter doesn't mean it can't provide an intense experience.
