Directions Arrival Policy Please inform us at least two weeks ahead of time of your specific arrival time, since arrangements must be made for someone to meet you. Calculating exact arrival times can be difficult as it is a very inexact science (miles traveled x velocity + # of rest stops + traffic jams + traffic tickets + unforeseen circumstances). We request that groups arrive at the Pilgrimage by 7:00 p.m.!!! Please plan accordingly! When you are 30 minutes away from The Pilgrimage (at 395, 495 or 66 or at airport, train, or bus station), please call the Program Manager and she will meet you at The Pilgrimage. If en route, you realize that you will be arriving outside your window of estimates arrival time, please contact us at the Pilgrimage Office at 202-387-6615.
DIRECTIONS TO THE PILGRIMAGE Driving: From Interstate 95 (from South) From Interstate 95 (from North) By Metro: From Union Station – Amtrak Train From Union Station – Greyhound Bus (*Each one of the underlined statements should link to the appropriate link below) 1. After I-66 crosses the Capital Beltway (I-495/95) it will be 9.5 miles to the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge. 2. Cross the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge, and take the Constitution Avenue Exit. 3. Once on Constitution (Lincoln Memorial on right) turn left onto 21st Street. Go a few blocks on 21st Street and turn Left onto G Street. 1. I-270 runs into the Capital Beltway (I-495) follow signs for Northern Virginia. You will cross the Potomac River via the Cabin John Bridge. Get in the right lane after the bridge. 2. Take the 1st Exit beyond the river (Exit #14), which automatically leads onto the George Washington Memorial parkway. Assuming normal traffic and speed, you are now about 11 miles, or 20 minutes from the church. 3. Six miles along the way, the Washington Monument comes into view as well as the Francis Scott Key Bridge that leads into Georgetown. 5. Take the next Exit, marked Theodore Roosevelt Bridge, which is about 9 miles from where you began on the Parkway. Going across the bridge, take the Exit to Constitution Avenue. 6. Once on Constitution (Lincoln Memorial on right) turn left onto 21st Street. Go a few blocks on 21st Street and turn Left onto G Street. 1. As I-95 crosses the Capital Beltway (I-495/95), its continuation automatically becomes I-395. Assuming speed limit conditions and normal traffic, it will take about 12 - 15 minutes to get to the Memorial Bridge. 2. Once on 395 North take it about 6-7 miles to exit 8 B. 3. Follow the exit lane to the traffic circle and turn right onto the Memorial Bridge. Warning the signs are very poor at this point, but you want to take the exit off of the circle heading toward the Lincoln Memorial on the other side of the river. If you miss the bridge continue around the circle again and then exit the next time around. 4. Once on Constitution (Lincoln Memorial on right) turn left onto 21st Street. Go a few blocks on 21st Street and turn Left onto G Street. 1. As you near Washington on I-95, the road will fork into I-95 and I-495. Get onto the I-495 West (the right-hand fork). 2. Take Exit 33 to Chevy Chase (Connecticut Avenue), getting into the left lane of the exit ramp. 3. At the signal, turn left onto Connecticut Avenue. You will stay on this street for most of the remaining trip. Depending on the flow of traffic this 7-mile trip can take from 25-30 minutes. 4. You’ll enter the District at Chevy Chase Circle. Continue around the circle and half way around you will hit Connecticut Avenue again. 5. After passing by the National Zoo, you will cross the Taft Bridge ("The Lion Bridge") spanning Rock Creek Park. 6. At the end of the bridge, Connecticut Avenue bears left. Follow up on the hill, getting into the right lane. 7. Beyond the crest, Florida Avenue angles off Connecticut Avenue, with a right turn arrow. Turn right onto Florida. 8. Go about 2 blocks and then the church tower will appear ahead. Cross Massachusetts Avenue (Florida Avenue then becomes 23rd Street), cross over Q Street, and take a sharp right into the parking lot, just before the church building. We will get you back on track! The church is located at the corner of 22nd and P streets right off of Dupont Circle. If you have negotiated your way to the church, you should see a building with a tall spire. Turn into the parking lot from 22nd Street between P and Q streets. Please park in a spot that is NOT marked with a blue sign. The Pilgrimage Seminar Center (look for the sign) entrance is adjacent to the parking lot by the gravel area. Go down the stairs and ring the doorbell. Be sure to obtain parking permits from the resident manager immediately upon your arrival. 1. Follow the directions in the airport to the metro station. 2. Take a YELLOW LINE train in the direction of Mt. Vernon Square. 3. Go 6 stops and get off at the Gallery Place-Chinatown stop. Go upstairs and transfer to a RED LINE train in the direction of Shady Grove or Grosvenor. 4. Go 3 stops and exit at Dupont Circle. Take the “Q Street North” Exit. (To your left.) 5. Take the escalator up to the street level. You will be on the corner of Q and 19th Streets, facing 19th Street. Walk down Q Street 3 blocks to 22nd Street. (You will pass the Indian Embassy and the Gandhi Statue.) 6. Turn left on 22nd Street. The Pilgrimage is on the Q Street side of the church. Look for the stone archway. The Pilgrimage Seminar Center (look for the sign) entrance is adjacent to the parking lot by the gravel area. Go down the stairs and ring the doorbell. B. From Union Station – Amtrak Train 1. Follow the signs downstairs to the Union Station Metro station. 2. Take a RED LINE train in the direction of Shady Grove or Grosvenor. 3. Go 5 stops and exit at Dupont Circle. Take the “Q Street North” Exit. (To your left.) 4. Take the escalator up to the street level. You will be on the corner of Q and 19th Streets, facing 19th Street. Walk down Q Street 3 blocks to 22nd Street. (You will pass the Indian Embassy and the Gandhi Statue.) 5. Turn left on 22nd Street. The Pilgrimage is on the Q Street side of the church. From Union Station – Greyhound Bus 1. Exit the Greyhound Station and walk 3 blocks North on 1st Street. 2. Turn right on N Street. Walk 1 block East on N Street to the New York Avenue metro station. 3. Take a RED LINE train in the direction of Shady Grove or Grosvenor. 4. Go 6 stops and exit at Dupont Circle. Take the “Q Street North” Exit. (To your left.) 5. Take the escalator up to the street level. You will be on the corner of Q and 19th Streets, facing 19th Street. Walk down Q Street 3 blocks to 22nd Street. (You will pass the Indian Embassy and the Gandhi Statue.) 6. Turn left on 22nd Street. The Pilgrimage is on the Q Street side of the church.
